Photography Course

This course is aimed at those either beginning or expanding their photographic practice. The programme is built around three main avenues: 1) the technical component, 2) the development of a visual language and 3) the actual production of a photographic project.

- Mastering the technical component of the photographic practice will allow for greater creative freedom, curtailing the distance between one’s ideas and their coming into being. Learn the mechanics of the camera, basic lighting techniques and editing software.

- Laying the groundwork for a photographic culture and visual language that will invest one’s work with a distinctive mark. Through the analysis and discussion of various works, we will address composition, time, light, subject, seriality (and so forth), thus beginning to shape one’s understanding of their own photographic language.

- Producing a photographic project from beginning to end, from idea to object. This topic is where the previous two come together, resulting in an original and individual creation to be developed throughout the whole duration of the course.

The final 4 classes of the course may be scheduled outside the usual days and times in order to carry out the preparation, installation, and opening of the final course exhibition or the final project presentations.

Number of Participants:
Class sizes are limited to 10 students to ensure personalised instruction. The course will run subject to a minimum enrolment of 8 participants.

Access to the Black & White Darkroom and the Digital Lab:

  • One weekly lab session outside of class hours, subject to prior booking with the lab supervisor. Use of the laboratories more than once per week is subject to an additional fee.

  • All printing paper for the Digital Lab and photographic paper for the Darkroom must be provided by the student.

  • Whenever necessary, students may request assistance from the lab supervisor, who will provide basic guidance on the correct use of the equipment.
